How to Customize the Android TV Home Screen

It has a simple UI, plenty of organization and customization options, and most of its features are completely free. It employs a list style with simple controls. You can use it for remembering your work tasks or your grocery list. You can even share lists with friends or family for collaboration. It also includes reminders for free, unlike many to-do list apps.

That’s essentially all you need when it comes widgets for note taking apps. You can also access notes on Google Drive using any web browser. Evie Launcher is a simple Android launcher with just enough features to be satisfying but not overwhelming. As with many launchers, you can jazz up the Home screen with a certain layout, icon size, and search bar from a friendly Settings screen. Choose your own search engine, such as Google, Bing, or even DuckDuckGo.

It takes a bit of work to get everything just right, but it’s an excellent choice once you get everything the way you want. I'm in the minimalist camp with one row of folders above the dock and maybe a clock widget depending on the wallpaper. My dock consists of six folders and a phone. A friend of mine hides almost every app and just uses search to pull them up. At the other end of the home screen spectrum lie screens with as little on them as possible. Minimalist home screens are tidy, they are simple, they are here to stay out of the way and let you get what you need to do done.

One of the most loved capabilities of Android is its highly customizable home screen. You can customize your Android phone’s home screen the way you want using widgets, icons and fonts and even pin websites to the home screen. However, the number of icons that these themes can change is very limited (to Samsung’s stock apps) and this doesn’t allow for a very nice look in my opinion. However, icon pack applications that you download from the Play Store can support thousands and thousands of apps.

However, they have opted to go for the Google Search widget at the bottom while putting the Home Screen Dock right above it. We have the pages above it and the dots that show you which page you’re currently on. It is completely up to the OEM to choose how they want their stock Home Screen to look. For those who came from an iOS device, all you know is your Home Screen. For us Android owners not only do we have a Home Screen but most devices also come with an App Drawer as well.

I don't go crazy and prefer a light home screen with the other apps on the following screens, but I like those screens and folders organized. Sometimes it bugs me when I have a group of related apps, and one lone soldier just there because there was no place logical to put it besides the Misc folder. This way I can enjoy whatever wallpaper or theme I happen to be using that day. The next two screens are full, but are organized by purpose and have folders for groups (Tech Tools, news/weather, Games). I usually go with uncluttered abstract or artistic wallpapers, and once in a while a good nature shot or cityscape. I have played with the idea of putting a face shot of Blake Belladonna on there (I'll be honest; I have a crush), but that might get me the side eye, lol.

Step 2: Move around your Home screen

Sometimes, channels from apps you install will automatically be added. You can manually add channels yourself as well. What is the name of the circular icon pack in the 2nd screenshot under the "Mixed" home screen section please?

For example, to open Gmail, select the Gmail icon, then double-tap. Some apps are on your Home screen and some are in the app section. There's also a Plus edition with even more features available as an in-app purchase for $6.99. There are also specific Apex actions you can add, including an app drawer, status bar, search field, voice search, and screen lock. The Apex Launcher also provides a handy navigation feature that lets you jump to any screen on your phone. Android TV comes with several channel rows on the home screen already.

That means I want to access it withinat mosttwo taps or swipes from the home screen. So, for example, if I want to open Slack, I tap the Work folder, then Slack. Folders are app collections that you can add to your Home screen. For example, a Google Play folder might have apps like Play Music, Play Books, and Play Movies. To explore a folder, open it and move your finger over the screen.

Like I said earlier, there are thousands upon thousands of widget options in the Play Store, and many of your favorite apps probably offer some kind of widget, too. Of all the the options on this list, you can easily sink the most time into your widget game. If there’s a bunch of junk lying around from the default setup—stuff that you never touch—get rid of it! Long-press the icon and either drag it to the top of the screen or simply flick it towards the top to quickly get rid of it. Don’t worry, you’re not deleting these apps—just getting them off the home screen. You can open apps with the icons on your device.

About Custom Launchers

It utilizes Dark Sky as its weather provider and has some basic weather app features as well. The app itself has a dark mode that we quite like and the UI is lovely. There isn’t a lot wrong with this one to be honest, and it’s a great option if you want some good-looking weather widgets. IFTTT is one of the most powerful apps out there.

Tap the home icon to select it as your home screen, which will automatically deselect any other screen. Add & find appsOn the Apps tab, you’ll find all the apps you’ve installed. To choose an app, use the D-pad on your remote and then select it. You'll sometimes find animations in the search bar on your home screen.

Time Until

Add a dock to the screen and tweak its size, opacity, and background, and modify the look of your folders and icons. Ovedrop is one of the newer Android widgets on the list. It’s technically just a weather app, but it has some surprisingly decent widgets for the home screen.
